The Details: The Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute (OSAI) is an intensive academy for Oklahoma high school students in the fields of acting, creative writing, ballet, modern dance, orchestra, chorus, drawing and painting, photography, and film and video. OSAI faculty artists include winners of the Pulitzer Prize and the Academy, Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Awards. You'll join over 250 students from across the state as you study your chosen field and attend or participate in performances, gallery openings, film screenings, poetry readings, and more. Optional activities include nature hikes, karaoke night, movie night, a talent show, and all-camp dances. You'll make lifelong friends and study with amazing teachers for a summer experience you'll never forget.
The Environment: Quartz Mountain State Park in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, overlooks the peaceful waters of Lake Altus-Lugert. An ancient, sacred, and inspiring site, Quartz Mountain was ceremonial grounds for several Native American tribes. Today, Quartz Mountain is now home to an Arts and Conference Center. The Center is an ideal retreat for arts immersion. With the 700-seat Twin Peaks Performance Hall, a state-of-the-art darkroom, five studio pavilions, an outdoor amphitheater, the Beverly Badger Memorial Library, and the Quartz Mountain Art Collection, the Arts and Conference center is the region's artistic epicenter. Nature lovers enjoy hiking and biking trails, bird watching, and a unique Oklahoma ecosystem. The Arts and Conference Center at Quartz Mountain is truly an Oklahoma treasure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can apply?
All Oklahoma high school and junior high students who will be between the ages of 14 and 18 by June 12, 2010. Graduating seniors who are 19 are also eligible.
All applicants must be enrolled in an Oklahoma public school, private school, or homeschool program.
OSAI is an intense and challenging program. Applicants should be motivated and serious about their art form.
Can I apply for more than one art form?
Yes. You can apply for up to three art forms/ disciplines.
There is a $20 non-refundable application fee for each discipline, and you must submit a separate application for each discipline.
How much does it cost to attend the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute?
All selected students attend the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute on full scholarships worth over $2,000 each.
Your scholarship includes tuition, room and board, equipment, facilities, operating costs, and full-time security, nursing, counseling, and administrative staffs.
In addition to the $20 application fee, attending students must pay a $250 non-refundable processing fee. Some disciplines, such as photography, require students to provide supplies.

Scholarships are provided by the Oklahoma State Department of Education and matched by private donations secured by the Oklahoma Arts Institute.
Additional program funding is provided by the Oklahoma Arts Council.
If I audition in a small town instead of a large city, will I have a better chance of being accepted to OSAI?
No. Auditions are judged on a statewide basis, not by audition location. Acceptance is based on audition scores, not on demographics.
When will I find out if I'm accepted?
All applicants, whether accepted, not accepted, or accepted as an alternate, will be notified by mail in early April, 2010.
Can I arrive at the Summer Arts Institute late or leave early?
No. Students must check in at the Quartz Mountain Arts and Conference Center in Lone Wolf, OK, on June 12, 2010 and remain until the end of the Closing Ceremonies on June 27, 2010. Students are NOT allowed to leave the camp during the program.
What kind of housing and accommodations can OSAI students expect?
24-hour on-site security and medical staffs ensure the safety of every OSAI student.
All students are housed within the Quartz Mountain State Park. Female students reside in the Quartz Mountain Lodge, and male students stay in dormitories and cabins on the park grounds. The entire state park is monitored by park rangers and 24-hour OAI staff.
Meals are served in the Sundance Cafe at the Quartz Mountain Lodge. Vegetarian options are available at each meal, and other dietary restrictions can be accommodated.
